Happy Anniversary MICG!

MICG stands for Mary Immaculate Choral Group. The choir sings during the mass every Sunday in Immaculate Concepcion Parish Church in Malabon. I was a member from 1994 to 1997 and I consider the group as the one who molded me into what I am now.

I remember Emy and Mhen, the first people I get to know from the choir, went to our house looking for me. My mom asked them why and they said they wanted to recruit me as a member. I was shocked at first and told them I don’t even know how to sing properly and they said they want to recruit me as the choir’s organist.

My mom then agreed when I told her I wanted to be a part of the choir. I was then invited for the practice the next day and I remember the day after was a Palm Sunday. It was my first time to play the organ at a Sunday mass and was glad to be part of the group.

I was treated like their baby sister since my mom was strict and asks them to send me home every time we need to go home at night due to practice. The camaraderie didn’t end in the church and on practices. Sometimes we hang out on one of our choir mate’s house after the mass and sometimes we go out for an outing.

But if there are good times, there are also bad times. I admit that I got tired of attending the choir because of my hectic college schedule. After that, I haven’t been able to attend even one event.

On Saturday, November 27, 2010, the alumni members will be having a gathering to celebrate MICG’s anniversary. The actual anniversary is on November 30, 2010 but since it is a working day, the gang decided to celebrate it on Saturday. The alumni will be singing at the Saturday mass followed by a celebration at Paulo and Bell’s house.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t attend this event. :( I’ll just look forward to looking at the pictures on Facebook. I missed being a choir member and I miss my choir mates. I do hope to see them again next year, since Leah, one of the members will be going back to the country for her twins’ baptism and hope to be able to attend.

Happy Anniversary MICG!
