Good day that ended in a bad one

Published by dothy under Personal July 19, 2010

My day started out smoothly, with my daughter waking up in a good mood and me able to do some posting before I went to the office.  At the office I was able to do lots of tasks and was able to finish early. Thus, I left an hour before to get the result of the mandatory drug test to be able to submit it when I go to office on Thursday.

I took a cab going to Glorietta to pick up the result and decided to buy pretzels from Auntie Anne’s to bring home to Iris and for me to have some change.  I took a cab from Glorietta going back home it was traffic so I was worried since I want to go home knowing Iris hasn’t slept in the afternoon and she’s waiting for me.

When the cab arrived at our place, I opened my wallet by then I remembered that I put the change in my pant’s pocket. I was in a hurry that after giving the driver a hundred bucks, I immediately ran up the stairs going to the elevator. When the elevator stopped at the floor where we live in, I saw Iris at the door waiting for me so I immediately hugged her and gave her the pretzel.  That’s the time I realized my wallet is GONE!

I know that I really lost it inside the cab and that there would be now way it would be back.  My IDs, credit card, ATMs, and healthcare card was there.  I immediately called the hotline for my credit card and ATMs to have those cancelled but the IDs, just thinking of the all the hassles I will go through to renew them makes my head hurts.  I’m still thankful that I left my husband’s ID, ATM and some of my other credit card at home and that my wallet doesn’t have any money in it!

Oh well, it’s a lesson learned that I should always be vigilant in my surroundings and to always check if I left something at the cab.  Another bad experience with riding a cab, huh?  It’s my fault this time though.

I’m just hoping that I the one who would get my wallet would be kind enough to give it back, even just the IDs.

I hate cab drivers!

We went to Glorietta this morning for a drug test at Patients First. Pasig City Ordinance requires all regular employees of all companies to undergo this test. Since we already have our annual physical exam which didn’t include this, we have the option to go to Pasig One Stop Clinic at Pasig City Hall or to any private clinics we prefer.  Since I live near Glorietta, I decided to go to Patients First since it’s also open on Sundays.

I went to the mall with my daughter and her nanny riding a cab, which we got parking near our place.  There are cabs that park near our place to wait for passengers.  Anyway, when we were near Glorietta, I checked the meter of the cab and I saw it’s 55 pesos so I opened my wallet to get the money.  I gave my daughter’s nanny 50 pesos first while I get another 20 pesos to give to the driver.  The nanny, who didn’t know how much the fare is, asks the driver, “where is your meter Kuya?”  I saw the driver immediately turned of the meter and said “It’s only 75 pesos”.  I immediately told him, “I saw it Kuya it’s only 55 pesos. I’m sure of that.”   The driver said “Ah okay, so just give me some extra pesos” (since the drivers are used to the passengers giving them extra 5 or 10 pesos).  I told him that I was about to give him 70 pesos but since I was really mad that he tried to cheat on us, I would only give him the exact amount.

Isn’t it frustrating that there are really those kind of cab drivers?  Though not all are like that, but most of the cab drivers try to do lots of things so that the fare shown on the meter would go higher. Too bad I forgot to get the cab’s plate number so that I won’t ride that car again if ever I saw it near our place.
